Star Fox Super Weekend Competition Jacket
A recent purchase brought Pokémon cards and a 1993 Super Star Fox Weekend prize jacket to Chrono — along with a connection to the original winner's family.
Some collection purchases bring together two very different sides of collecting. This one included Pokémon cards — and a black Super Star Fox Weekend jacket with a family connection reaching back to a Nintendo competition in 1993.
Chrono Collectibles bought the cards and the jacket together. Pokémon is familiar territory for us. The jacket gave this haul something else: a piece of Nintendo competition history, and the story of the person who won it.
A Prize From Super Star Fox Weekend
From April 30 through May 2, 1993, Nintendo held the Super Star Fox Weekend competition at participating stores across the United States. Players competed for high scores using a special competition version of Star Fox for the Super Nintendo.
The top player at each participating store earned a bomber jacket, with the Nintendo logo on the front and the Super Star Fox Weekend emblem on the back.
More than three decades later, that embroidered back design still makes an impression. The bright turquoise lettering, the orange-and-red Star Fox logo and the yellow orbit stand out against the black satin. For anyone who grew up with the SNES, it captures a very particular moment in Nintendo history.

From the Winner's Family to Chrono
The seller was the brother of the jacket's original winner.
According to the family's account and the documentation accompanying the purchase, Brian Steele won the jacket after taking first place at the Walmart competition in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
That connection is a big part of what makes this acquisition interesting to us. We have a name, a location and an account of how the jacket was earned — details that can easily become separated from an item as it changes hands over the years.

The accompanying sheet records Brian's win and the event dates. We are keeping it with the jacket so its history stays attached to it.
Why This One Stood Out
We enjoy buying games and cards, but our interest in collecting also extends to the things surrounding them: store displays, promotional materials, competition prizes, and other pieces that tell the story of how people experienced these games when they were new.
This jacket fits right into that side of collecting. It connects a familiar SNES game to an actual event, a particular store, and a player who went home with a prize.
The Pokémon cards were part of the purchase, but the jacket earns the spotlight in this write-up. Being able to preserve the family's account alongside it makes the pickup especially memorable.
Have Something With a Story?
If you are thinking about selling a collection, include the unusual pieces in your photos too. Old promotional jackets, competition memorabilia, store signage and paperwork are all worth showing us alongside your games and cards.
And if you remember where something came from, or how it was won, tell us. Those details help us understand what we are looking at — and Chrono Collectibles can preserve the story for whoever owns it next.
